The Rudd Heart and Lung Center on the UofL Health - Jewish Hospital is one of the leading centers in the region for comprehensive cardiovascular care. Cardiothoracic surgeons at the Rudd Heart and Lung Center were responsible for implanting the world's first and second AbioCor Implantable Replacement Hearts. The world's first successful heart transplant following use of a thoracic ventricular assist device also took place at the center. In addition, our surgical teams were the first in Kentucky to perform open-heart surgery, heart transplant, and implantation of the HeartMate II ventricular assist device. We were also the first in the state to offer transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
