UofL Health Promoting Importance of Organ Donation
During Kentucky Derby Festival Health Fair
Event Thursday, April 25 at 4th Street Live!
UofL Health is getting into the Derby spirit, while also helping save lives. As a sponsor of the Kentucky Derby Festival, UofL Health will be involved in multiple Derby festivities, including the 12th annual Kentucky Derby Festival Health Fair. April is National Donate Life Month, a time dedicated to encouraging friends, family, and community members to give the gift of life and sign up to be an organ donor. More than 116,000 men, women, and children across the country currently await a lifesaving transplant, according to Donate Life America. One donor can help save and heal more than 75 lives.
To help raise awareness, UofL Health will provide information about organ donation, the UofL Health - Jewish Hospital Trager Transplant Center, and ways you can help make a difference during the Kentucky Derby Festival Health Fair. This year, the Transplant Center celebrated two major milestones: the 20th Anniversary of the World’s Most Successful Hand Transplant, and the 55th Anniversary of the UofL Health - Jewish Hospital Transplant Program. Since 1964, physicians at UofL Health - Jewish Hospital have performed more than 5,200 transplants.
