Medical Nutrition Therapy

The term “medical nutrition therapy” (MNT) was introduced in 1994 by the American Dietetic Association to better articulate the nutrition therapy process. It is defined as the use of specific nutrition services to treat an illness, injury, or condition and involves two phases:
  1. Assessment of the nutritional status of the client
  2. Treatment, which includes nutrition therapy, counseling, and the use of specialized nutrition supplements

UofL Health offers MNT by one of our Registered Dietitians (RD). An RD is an expert in nutrition and diet therapy. All of our RDs have had experience treating people with a variety of medical needs and know the struggles related to changing eating habits.

Physician Referrals

A physician referral is required to assist in insurance coverage of MNT. Download a referral form to take to your physician. For questions about billing or additional information, please contact our office at 502.587.4465.
