UofL Health - Rudd Heart and Lung Center (formerly KentuckyOne Health - Rudd Heart and Lung Center) is one of the leading centers in the region for comprehensive cardiovascular care. For more than 25 years, the surgeons and staff members at the center have had their fingers on the pulse of the latest advances in heart care. By supporting research and education, the Rudd Heart and Lung Center leads the way in developing new technology and in training physicians from around the world on leading-edge techniques.
Cardiothoracic surgeons at the Rudd Heart and Lung Center were responsible for implanting the world's first and second AbioCor (R) Implantable Replacement Hearts. The world's first successful heart transplant following use of a thoracic ventricular assist device also took place at the center. In addition, our surgical teams were the first in Kentucky to perform open-heart surgery, heart transplant, and implantation of the HeartMate II (TM) and HeartMate 3 (TM) ventricular assist device. We were also the first in the state to offer transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The team at the Rudd Heart and Lung Center is made up of nationally renowned cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiologists, all performing the full spectrum of invasive, noninvasive and surgical procedures. Using the most sophisticated equipment and techniques to diagnose, manage and treat heart and vascular disease, this collaborative team is among the most highly touted in the region.
